The sink is an important in the kitchen, and it is part of the kitchen triangle layout most kitchens tend to follow – the three main corners are for the sink, oven and fridge (and worktop space for food preparation). These are shaped in a triangle to make it easy to manoeuvre between the three main points of use in the kitchen; grab your food out of the fridge, prepare by the sink and pop in the oven. Easy triangle formation to make your life easier!

The choice in kitchen sinks is huge so it s worth spending some time looking around to find a sink that will do you and your kitchen justice. Obviously take the time to think about what you need your sink for – are you living on your own in a small flat or are you living with a partner and children? The answers to these questions will help you decide on the type of sink you will need.

Sinks and taps have moved on both stylistically and technologically in recent years – for sinks you will need to decide on the type of material you want and for the taps you can choose from a huge selection of modern designs (including taps that use an LED light to change the colour of your water as it flows!). You can also get swan neck mixer taps, which add a touch of elegance to any sink.

One other option to consider is how large you want your sink to be, how much draining space you think you will need, and whether you think it s worth having two sinks for practical reasons.

The cheapest type of sink is a synthetic sink, followed by stainless steel and ceramic sinks and then higher end composite and wooden sinks. Each type of sink has its own pros and cons and we ve compiled of them below to help you with your sink choice!

Synthetic

A synthetic sink is your cheapest option so a good option if you are on a tight budget. Synthetic sinks are very durable and won t stain easily. You can also get granite-effect sinks that make them look more expensive than they really are!

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel sinks are by far the most popular choice as they aren t too expensive, although you can purchase higher end stainless steel sinks, and they are a hygienic choice for food preparation and cleaning. They are also very durable and recyclable so very eco-friendly. Make sure your stainless steel sink contains nickel as this is the element that will stop it from rusting.

Wooden

Strange as it may seem, you can get wooden sinks that are made from teal, which naturally prevents the buildup of bacteria so a very hygienic option. There s also no dish clattering on this type of surface, so dishes can be washed quietly and peacefully. Teak tends to be more high-end and a bit more pricey but is durable and will last a long time. Wooden sinks can transform kitchen making it look sophisticated or rustic (or both!) depending on which look you are going for.
